You have a MAIT TETE which is the Loa who stands for you. Everybody has automatically a Mait Tete in the second of his birth; in other cultures you could see a connection to the Wholy Guardian Angel, or Clan Animal.... The Mait Tete is mainly found during big rituals for the Loas.
Beside of the Loas there are other important spirits to mention:
The MARASSA - These are the holy twins - a man and a woman. Some books mention that they are the parents of the Loas.
The ANCESTORS - they play an important role. They are the beholders of knowledge.
If you plan a Voodoo-Ritual give offerings to the Marassa, then to the Ancestors and then most important to EXU before you can begin to invoke a Loa. It is also common to draw a street of water from 3 corners to the middle, because the spirits travel on water. This is done before the offerings to the Marassa.
